Hiking with Kids

Take a Hike with a Tyke:
How to Make Family Time Outdoor Time this Summer!

Alpine Tours with Kids – The Conquest of 3,000-Meter Peaks

Worried that you'll never go hiking again now that you've got a baby or toddler in tow? Don't. The great outdoors offers virtually unlimited opportunities for you to spend time with your family away from the bustle of everyday life. It's chock full of healthy, non-competitive, family-oriented activities.
The surrounding Samnaun Mountains and Ötztal Alps make for rewarding summit destinations, however not every tour is suitable for families with children.
How can you make hiking fun for your children and avoid the "how much farther" syndrome? The following are a few suggestions …

Must-Haves for Family Hikes

First of all: Don't hurry! While it may be easy to understand why you want to conquest a 3,000-meter peak, instantly, when looking through your room window at the St. Laurentius Family Hotel, please try to see hiking through a kid's eye: How far can a 9-year old walk? Children do not recognize fatigue and will drop from exhaustion before they show any true signs of tiring. Take a break every now and then. Make sure you have enough to drink! And check out if there are on-mountain eateries along your planned route.
Consider to take the easy way up: Get a head start uphill from one of our lifts - some reach up to elevations of 2,300 meters above sea level. Once atop, you can reach the top of a 3,000-meter mountain the easy and fast way. And then savor what every mountaineer dreams of: The conquest of a peak!
Going outside with your children can be a great way to enjoy a child's-eye view of the world. You'll learn again about the magic of mud and how much fun a stream can be, and if your child sees her first deer or a woodpecker, you'll always remember it, too.

Quality Gear Will Enhance Your Child's Experience with the Great Outdoors

It doesn't matter how beautiful the scenery is, without the right gear, a hike with kids can be a harrowing experience. The most important things to consider when selecting hiking gear for kids are comfort and safety. Quality footwear is the foundation of a successful hiking experience. No one enjoys blisters, cracked heels, or sore toes. Your child will not grow to love hiking if he or she is wearing ill-fitting shoes. And whether you're going out for a couple of hours, make sure you have sunscreen and sunglasses and extra clothes. An extra layer of warm clothing, including a hat (for sun protection in hot weather and warmth in cold weather) are essential.

So you've hiked all the trails and routes from beginner to challenging and now you are looking for that next big challenge. Ever tried mountaineering? Local guides are available to the thrill-seeking mountain adventurer. What ever guided tour you choose, we know you will leave with great stories, wonderful photos and a deeper appreciation of the Tyrolese Mountains.
